Transitioning

Hey guys

Sorry for the long wait but here goes my first post

So as I said in my introduction I started transitioning in early September 2014. The reason for this at first was because of a friend of mine I loved the look of her hair and was interested at how she managed to maintain it. This is when I decided to set myself a challenge to see how long I could go natural for.

When I was younger my mum never used to leave my hair out in its natural state it was always in braids. As I got older she started to straighten it and leave it out for the day if we had special occasions, but you guessed it after that it was back to plaits. She used to find it very hard to manage as my hair was very long and thick. (guys I basically have enough hair even now to give half a head of hair to someone and still have enough for myself). I think she also used to do it because it was a protective style and it meant she didnt have to do anything with it in the mornings.

Any way back to my challenge, so in September I washed my hair and left it curly added some leave in conditioner and was shocked to see it left in its natural state, everyone complemented me and loved the change. But then came the hard part maintaining it, now i’m not going to lie to you at first I did’nt have a clue at what I was doing. I constantly asked my friend for advice and watched loads of youtube videos, which saved my life. After about two months I began to really enjoy the challenge of looking after my hair and testing different products, which dont worry guys ill be mentioning them throughout my blogs so keep reading.

Since transitioning I have only straightened my hair once since September and that was in February for my birthday (everyone deserves a treat lol). For me that is an achievement especially as I used to straighten my hair once a month.

Along my journey I have felt so many emotions from happy to sad to the fraustrating days when your curls just dont do what you want. But overall I have started to love and embrace my curly hair more and more and havent even looked at my straighteners since. Having my hair curly has also allowed me to see how versatile my hair really is and the amount of texture and volume it adds to my hairstyles. I sometimes cant believe I waited this long but hey I wont dwell on the past, but lets just say me and my curls will be having a happy future together lol.

About my hair

My hair is a type 3c/4a and I find the middle grows slower than the outer part which is so frustrating, my hair is very thick and whenever applying product has to be split into minimum 8 sections so that the products actually reach my scalp lol.

Well guys thats it for now let me know what you think, if you can relate or have any questions. If you would prefer to email me that is fine to.

Speak to you soon and thanks for reading
